Judo in schools has been a regular feature of after-school programs since 1996. This received a boost in 2005 when judo was included as an elective in Physical Education at the CXC, now CSEC. Now, judo after school programs are officially recognized by Judo TT in 11 schools, including 3 primary schools and 8 secondary schools – Maria Regina, Dunross Prep, Holistic Prep., Pleasantville Secondary, Holy Name Convent, Bishop Anstey High School, St Joseph’s Convent POS, Fatima College, St Mary’s College, Diego Martin Central and Queen’s Royal College. The goal of Judo TT is to spread judo nationally, especially in schools, and the SJL would be a means to help grow the sport.
