First Female Olympian!


Gabriella Wood has made female history for Judo in Trinidad and Tobago.

Being one of two females from the anglophone Caribbean, qualifying to compete in the sport of judo at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games! Official correspondence confirming Gabriella’s qualification was released from the International Judo Federation to Judo Trinidad and Tobago (JudoTT) on Tuesday 22nd June 2021. In 2016 Christopher George became the first Athlete for Judo Trinidad and Tobago to qualify to compete in judo at an Olympic Games, now Gabriella Wood tops off our two olympic streak for the last decade becoming our first Female Olympian.

Basing in Scotland since 2017 and training under her Scottish coach Lee Calder, Gabriella has secured her spot at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games via continental quota. With various competitions throughout the European and Pan-American judo circuit, along with several training camps at different international training centers and countries, the 23 year old is the first female Trinbagonian judoka to achieve qualification at the most prestigious stage for any athlete.

JudoTT is proud to present Gabriella Wood as our Olympian carded to represent Trinidad and Tobago in the +78kg category at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.
